LEGAZPI CITY – Some local disaster coordinating councils and selected disaster-prone cities in Bicol region have acquired worth P2.5 million new equipment for rescue operations from the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC), in preparation for calamities this year.
Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal said at a press conference that the six provinces of Bicol, including four cities of Legazpi, Tabaco, Iriga and Naga will be receiving a complete land to sea equipments in case of flooding and other catastrophes that would hit the region.
According to Rosal, Legazpi city has seven trainees for disaster management and another seven members for quick response team that would help mitigate casualties during typhoons and untoward incidents.
He said that the distributed equipments were procured abroad and in Manila, adding: “We’ll still have its second phase of the release of equipments.”
Distributed equipments were seven binoculars, 1 set portable power tools, rescue first aid kit, two units of life preserver vest and a set of medical evacuation equipment.
Rosal added that Bicol Search and Rescue Team and other local disaster coordinating councils have acquired a pair of hand held radio; two sets of generator; portable rescue lights in hard case; two sets of Mountain Rescue Relief Team (MRRT) package, including rescue and rapelling harness; and wasar equipment.
And for sea rescue operation, pieces of equipment distributed were: a set of rubber boat with outboard motor; five sets of wet suits (short pants for non-divers); seven units of rescue helmet with headlamps and safety gadgets and sets of personal protective equipment.
