Rebels seize gun from DPWH district engineer

Communist guerillas raided the office of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Sorsogon province, taking away a handgun of the district engineer on Monday morning, reports reaching Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola said.

According to the reports, around 30 members of the New People’s Army (NPA) barged the District Engineer ‘s office of the DPWH at around 10:30 a.m. in Barangay (village) Bacacay in Gubat town and fled after seizing a 9 mm. pistol from Engr. Edgar Curativo.

Greg Bañares, spokesperson of the CPP-NPA-NDF Bicol said over Bombo Radio Legazpi that the NPA rebels claimed responsibility of the harassment due to misconduct of Curativo inside the office.

Curativo’s gun was confiscated and no one was hurt during the raid, Bañares claimed.

The communist rebels left the area after 15 minutes and withdrew towards the direction of Bacon District, Sorsogon.

Chief Superintendent Paterno Bangui, Bicol regional police director said the NPA’s demanded to stop the on-going construction of all the government projects within the 2nd district of Sorsogon, which is contrary to the statement of the enemies’ side.
