LEGAZPI CITY -- The communist guerillas, which earlier had a spate of attacks with the government troops, raided the detachment of the Citizen's Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) in the province of Camarines Sur on Tuesday early morning, a report reaching Camp Simeon Ola said.
Believed to be the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels, about 50 armed men broke the barbed wires of the detachment in the village of Lubigan, in Sipocot town, Camarines Sur at around 2:00 a.m.
An encounter ensued between militiamen and insurgents at around 11:20 a.m. of the same day in the town of Libmanan, Camarines Sur in the pursuit operation.
Based on the report, at least five communist rebels were killed after the five-minute firefight.
Recovered from the scene were a M16 rifle (SN 4966901) and a US carbine (SN4153383)
On the other hand, the government troops lost six carbines, four grand rifles, 17 bunkers, while a Kenwood HH charger, nine magazines for M14 rifle and other personal belongings were damaged. Johana Vi Gasga
