LEGAZPI CITY – Government troops have captured an abandoned rebel camp during their operations in Catanduanes on Tuesday morning, a military spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The camp was discovered by the operating troops of the 83rd Infantry Battalion led by First Lieutenant Darre P. Mariano at Sitio Sara, Barangay san Miguel Panganiban at around 7:00 a.m., said Captain Razaleigh G. Bansawan, spokesperson of the 901st Infantry Battalion, in a text message.
According to Lieutenant Coronel Romeo Basco, battalion commander of the 83rd IB, the recently found camp can accommodate 15 persons.
This is the fifth encampment recovered by the soldiers since August 9 in Bicol that came through the assistance of the civilians, said Bansawan.
Meanwhile, prior to this, a woman rebel was arrested by the government troops on Monday evening.
Dominga Cristobal alias Enggay was apprehended at around 7:00 p.m. in Catanduanes and resulted to the recovery of a .38 revolver pistol with eight rounds of ammunition from her possession.
